Taniya Papinazath Taniya Panda

Taniya Panda started her dance training in Toronto under the tutelage of Smt Lata Pada. She moved to Chennai, India in the late 90s and took up intensive training in bharatanatyam under the able guidance of Smt Radhika Kalyani (disciple of K.J. Sarasa and Smt Chitra Visweswaran) and is currently training with Sri A. Lakshman. She has performed extensively as a soloist and in group productions at different venues in India during the dance festival. More recently she has trained with Smt Anuradha Jagannathan in Toronto. Taniya is also well versed in Carnatic music. She was fortunate enough to learn from Veena Vidushi Smt Padmavathi Ananthagoplan (sister of Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman). When Taniya is not busy pursuing her musical and dance interests, she is a science buff conducting research in the field of Immunology.

Natasha Raheja Natasha Raheja

Natasha Raheja began studying Bharatanatyam at age seven under Shrimati Revathi Satyu at the Arathi School of Dance. After completing her arangetram in 2004, she joined the Nritya Sangam Indian Dance Troupe at the University of Texas at Austin. With Nritya Sangam, Natasha had the opportunity to perform at many kinds of venues (her favorite being the main mall with a view of the Capitol) and conduct lecture-demonstrations for young students. While in Austin, she also briefly studied nattuvangam with Anuradha Naimpally and taught beginners' classes with Vinitha Subramanian at the Natyalaya School of Dance. Natasha is currently a doctoral student in the Department of Anthropology at New York University.

Arthi Ramachandran Arthi Ramachandran

Arthi's love affair with Bharatanatyam started at the age of 5 under Smt. Kamala Narayanan. She continued her dance training in Chennai under Smt. Yogeshwari Saveri Raj (disciple of K.J. Sarasa). She performed her Arangetram in 2001 in Chennai, India. She was a member of Kalaa, the Indian classical dance troupe at Princeton during her undergrad years in various capacities from choreographer and dancer to stage manager and MC. She is very happy to, once again, return to Bharatanatyam through Navatman. Arthi is a currently PhD candidate in Computational Biology at Columbia University.

Sahasra Sambamoorthi Sahasra Sambamoorthi

Sahasra Sambamoorthi is currently co-president at Anamika-Navatman. She learned bharatanatyam under Guru Smt Kalaimamani Ramya Ramnarayan and is the recipient of various awards including the NJSCA Folk Arts Apprenticeship. Following her graduation from Columbia University and learning much from the semi-classical troupe there Taal, she created Navatman Dance in an attempt to explore the boundaries of bharatanatyam. Currently, she is learning kuchipudi from Pratibha Vuppuluri and kathak from Ramya Agrawal.

Soumya Sampath Soumya Sampath

Soumya's passion for dancing began at the age of 5, and has been learning Bharatanatyam for over 15 years. Soumya is currently a student of Sahasra Sambamoorthi prior to which she was under the tutelage of Guru. Bhanumati from Bangalore who is a disciple of Padmashri K.N.Dandayuthapani Pillai. Apart from Bharatanatyam Soumya has won many awards for Group Contemporary dance in Bangalore at inter-collegiate competitions during her undergraduate days at BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore. Following which, she has also been an active member of the cultural association RIGSA, Rutgers Indian Graduate Student Association, New Jersey.

Sabina Sebastian Sabina Sebastian

Sabina Sebastian, originally from Kerala, has followed her lifelong passion for dance to train in a diverse range of styles. At the age of four, she began Bharatnatyam under Sri Raja Rajeshwari in New York. She expanded to Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi under Sri Vijayalakshmi in Cochin. At the university level, she studied Martha Graham Technique and Jazz, and went on to lead Stony Brook University’s South Asian dance troupe to their first national competitions. Along the way, she won numerous awards for outstanding choreography, and was the first South Asian woman to earn a spot on the university’s hip hop dance troupe, Déjà Vu. With an M.B.A. in Marketing, she’s kept busy as an Ad Exec at McCann Worldgroup, but her enduring passion has led her back to dance, joining Navatman Dance in June 2011.

Soumya Subramanian Soumya Subramanian

Soumya has been learning Bharathnatyam under Padmashri Meenakshi Chitharanjan for the last 16 years. She has performed solo and in group productions at numerous prestigious venues in India and China. Apart from classical dance, she is trained in other forms of dance like Indian Contemporary, Salsa and Jive and has performed at reputed dance festivals. With an MBA in Marketing, she worked as an Analytics Consultant before moving to New York. Her passion for the art motivated her to join Navatman in July 2011. She is currently the Marketing Manager and Events Specialist at the Indo American Arts Council, New York.

Tanvi Bajaj Tanvi Bajaj

Tanvi Bajaj has been learning Bharatanatyam under the tutelage of Smt Jamuna Krishnan from New Delhi, India. During these 15 years of training she has performed extensively as a soloist and as a member of her Guru's dance troupe-Kalangan. To combine her passion for dance and education in Psychology, she is pursuing the Laban Movement Analysis course in New York and working towards applying dance in the areas of education, therapy and well-being.
