Directed by Jesse Newman, this short piece mixes the genres of poetry, music, dance, and film.

The Nayika Reversal: by Sahasra Sambamoorthi
World Premiere: June 2010 (Available for performances, 3 dancers, 4 minutes)

In this wonderful twist on the traditional padam, the dancers play men who can't seem to catch the attention of the women they adore. Click on the link above to view the piece on youtube! Directed by Jesse Newman, music by Penn Masala, and danced by Sahasra Sambamoorthi, Sindhu Sundar and Aishwarya Iyer.

The Rhythm Within: by Sahasra Sambamoorthi
World Premiere: April 15, 2011 (Available for performances, 8 dancers, 80 minutes)

Navatman Dance premiered its first independent full length production in spring of 2011. Called "The Rhythm Within", this program bases itself on the margam emotional structure rather than its piecewise structure. The main piece, inspired by varnams, explores the nayika/nayaka relationship through more modern eyes. Music for this piece is composed by Elizabeth Claire Burke, Chitradeep De, and Sahasra Sambamoorthi.

This small showcase allows patrons to see bits and pieces from different shows, including The Rhythm Within and Dance of the Animals. More importantly, it is filled with shorts and fun pieces that are not necessarily part of the larger thematic presentations (such as Krishna and the Lost Boys
