Bharatanatyam is a major form of Indian classical dance that originated in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is one of eight forms of dance recognized by the Sangeet Natak Akademi and it expressed South Indian religious themes and spiritual ideas, particularly of Shaivism, Vaishnavism an Shaktism.

Kathak is one of the major forms of Indian classical dance. The origin of Kathak is traditionally attributed to the traveling bards of ancient northern India known as Kathakars or storytellers. The term Kathak is derived from the Vedic Sanskrit word Katha which means "story", and Kathakar which means "the one who tells a story", or "to do with stories".

Hindustani classical music is the traditional music of northern regions of India. Its origins date from the 12th century CE, when it diverged from Carnatic music, the classical tradition of southern regions of the Indian subcontinent due to Persian or Islamic influences.

Carnatic music, is a system of music commonly associated with southern India. The main emphasis in Carnatic music is on vocal music; most compositions are written to be sung, and even when played on instruments, they are meant to be performed in gāyaki (singing) style.

Odissi is a classical dance style which traces its origins to the 2nd century BC in Odisha. In the Natya Shastra this dance form is referred to as Odar Magadha and is
marked by the very low bend position called chowka, and the s-bend position, tribhanga. This art form mimic the beauty of sculptures and is conceived by drawing from the Gotipua and Maharis tradition. |
Mridangam is one of the oldest traditional percussion instruments from South India. The Mridangam is typically the lead percussion accompaniment for Carnatic performances - music and dance alike. This year, Navatman is offering a basics of Mridangam class open to all levels.
