Stories of the past weave with dreams of the future, connecting spaces across time and memory. The ferocity and passion of untethered joy become the roots from which resilience arises as the professional branches of Navatman and Baila Society come together to celebrate and honor the deep histories of salsa and Indian classical dance as forms of survival, transformation and power. With live music, new compositions, and several world premiere performances, watch the stage take new life with the incredible dance and music of bharatanatyam, kathak, salsa and Latin Hustle.
In 2024, Navatman and Baila Society joined forces for a uniquely New York City experience: a place where two women-led arts organizations based in the cultural traditions of Afro-Latinx arts (salsa, Latin Hustle) and Indian arts (bharatanatyam, kathak, hindustani and carnatic music) came together.
In this shared space, they explore how the force of artists and students working together can promote, define, and create a shared sense of stability, strength, safety, joy and love within communities at large - particularly through artistic expression and endeavors.
