Navatman Stands United with All Minority Communities
We at Navatman stand firmly with all minority communities and against the deep injustices of systemic racism, oppression, and violence that the US and individual ignorance has helped perpetuate. Deeply rooted systemic oppression cannot be ignored or glossed over. Violence and hatred towards our family and friends will not be tolerated. The humanitarian way to address such issues is to both acknowledge it and take direct community action and responsibility within these spaces.
Navatman acknowledges the privilege we hold, and will be leveraging it to support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, and LGBTQIA+ communities. As things progress and evolve in our country, we are committed to continuously learning and uplifting these communities by engaging in the following ways:
Navatman acknowledges the privilege we hold, and will be leveraging it to support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, and LGBTQIA+ communities. As things progress and evolve in our country, we are committed to continuously learning and uplifting these communities by engaging in the following ways:
- Educating ourselves and our community
- Having conversations about racism, privilege and more, even when difficult
- Listening to our communities’ needs - students, parents, artist, employees and more - and reexamining our processes and internal systems
- Providing a safe space for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ artists and students of the Indian classical arts
- Taking action where appropriate using our knowledge as teachers to help navigate these difficult subjects with our students
We know that this is just the start, and pledge to uphold and share this work even after the momentum slows.
