Navatman Dance, led by artistic director Sahasra Sambamoorthi, is a bharatanatyam and kathak dance company based in New York City whose mission is to connect our individual experiences through the mediums of the traditional stories and dance styles of India. With every show, we emphasize the audience-performer connection to create a special experience that stays with the viewer for years to come.

Sahasra Sambamoorthi
Artistic Director & Principal Dancer

Sahasra Sambamoorthi's passion is to re-ignite the fire of the South Asian performing arts within the US. Trained in bharatanatyam by Smt Kalaimamani Ramya Ramnarayan, she has been called by reporters as a "young trailblazer...on the crest of the wave leading us towards a new understanding of South Asian arts in the United States." Co-Founder of Navatman, Inc and continues her studies under Prashant Shah (kathak) and Bijayini Satpathy (odissi) along with bharatanatyam under Ramya as and when possible.

Ruchi Tandon
Dancer

A software engineer by profession, Ruchi spends most of her time outside of work learning, performing and teaching dance. Ruchi has been learning Kathak from Sahasra Sambamoorthi at Navatman for about 7 years, in addition to learning from Deepali Vichare in Mumbai for 7 years. She has also been pursuing her advanced dance training under Guru Prashant Shah, and now regularly performs under Prashant Shah and Dancers as well, touring in major cities all over the US.

Ruchi also danced at Bollywood Funk NYC for 4 years and has performed in multiple shows and events as a part of the same.

Interested in Joining?

Performances can range from short 10-20 minute slots to full concerts. Performances are both paid and unpaid opportunities will be part of the gigs. Placement in concerts and arrangements are via the vision of artistic director Sahasra Sambamoorthi.
