Board 2: About Ustad Sabri Khan

Ustad Sabri Khan was an integral part of bringing the sarangi to the forefront of India’s music scene. He is credited with introducing the sarangi to the global stage. In fact, his playing was so legendary that at the stroke of midnight upon India’s first breath of independence, it was his playing of the sarangi that filled Parliament with the anthem of independence.

Board 4: Born in the Mughal courts

Kamal Sabri’s lineage begins in the Mughal courts of Akbar. It is noted that his great great great great grandfather is tied to the lineage of the great Mian Tansen, noted vocalist of the emperor during the 16h century.
Each of his ancestors is attributed in some way to play a pivotal role in preserving and beautifying the arts of India with the very rare instrument of the sarangi.
