What:
Yes, you heard right - artists - classical trained musicians and dancers - are being welcomed to audition for a Broadway style production of Indian classical music and dance.
Questions we presume you might have:
1. What are the rehearsal hours?
The rehearsals will go from June - November
June - August will be 2-4 hours a week (one weekend day at least) and will ramp up into full cast rehearsals in September and October, 4-8 hours a week. If you are unsure about the time commitment, come in and audition anyway - it may still work!
2. Will I get paid?
Certain characters will be paid a small stipend, others will be unpaid.
3. What do I need to do to RSVP?
Please submit a headshot, small video clip of you singing or dancing or acting (or all of them!), and 3 photos along with your dance resume.
4. What will happen at the audition?
Please come prepared with:
- 30 seconds of each genre (bharatanatyam, carnatic music, kathak, hindustani musicians) you are auditioning for
- 30 seconds of a script or dialogue (it can be a poem, it can be back and forth, or we can provide one for you)
We will then go on into a singing portion and a dancing portion where we will teach you something and you will present it to us.
5. Are there bigger plans for this production?
We hope so! We'd love to see this get picked up and be more than just a one run, one week show.
6. When is the show?
The show is slotted for Nov 1- 6, exact dates TBD.
7. Is this more acting, more music, or more dance?
The show is still heavily classical Indian music and dance pieces (bharatanatyam and carnatic music). Acting and dialogue will be more minimal.
8. What genres do you need?
Kathak, bharatanatyam, kuchipudi, mridangam, tabla, sitar, carnatic musicians, hindustani musicians. Since we're working some roles in based on those who audition, right now we're looking at EVERYONE. If you can sing, dance or play an instrument in a classical style, COME!
