Our Mission
Our mission is to make this project a sustainable Diwali-time tradition, a staple for Indian-American households and for those looking to immerse themselves in the world of Indian myths and art. Through the Mahabharata project, we plan to:
Uplift the female and immigrant run business, production, cast and crew
Build a platform for the Indian Classical arts to be valued and appreciated outside of the traditional space
Break down the systemic lack of diversity and equity in the Arts Space, and creating space for inclusion, accessibility, growth and representation

To overcome cultural bias, we must understand and empathize with others through cultural works of art.
To embolden cultural pride, we must relive stories of our heritage with new perspectives and through new mediums. To foster cultural respect, we must link arms with those who will join us in the journey forward. If the spaces do not exist for us, Navatman will create them. If the spaces will not let us in, Navatman will go around them. If the spaces tell us no, we will be the ones to make larger spaces and tell ourselves yes. To overcome cultural hate, one must empathize, be introduced to, and understand "the other", our cultural works of art, our heritage. To create cultural pride, one must tell our stories and pass them on to as many people as possible. To create cultural respect, one must create work as resourced as the ones of those in power. This is the Mahabharata. The largest epic in the world covers concepts of caste, gender, humanity, in ways we could not fathom. Of the 5-6 renditions of the Mahabharata floating out there, and 3 major translations, this is one of the biggest works a team of storytellers can take on in their life. Many give up trying to understand the magnitude of what is covered. And the Navatman team is taking it on, providing:
Where are we in the project?Where will your funds go?It gives a fascinating insight into the innards of a complex story that even today generates intense philosophical debates among newbies and scholars alike on the action and karma of some of the characters, and the effect of war, statecraft, aggression and indeed passiveness too; its grave repercussions - News Indiatimes Loved the unique way you mixed conversation and song with the dance.. - Prathima M. |
